Question for those familiar with Route Verte. Are all surfaces paved? I ride 700x23 tires.

« on: September 05, 2015, 09:47:23 am » dept of transportation has wonderful free maps for numerous bike routes through NY.  Nothing electronic but tons of useful info... hotels, hostels, campgrounds, bike stores, etc., and elevation changes. I suggest Bike Rt. 9. Takes you from GW bridge to Canadian border. All relatively quiet, safe roads with good shoulders. Very helpful with bridge access as well.

Many thanks for suggestions. Gone to Montreal twice, thru NY bike Rt. 9 and VT old Rt. 7. Since QC is the end point, thinking about staying to the east, Rt. 5 north along VT/NH border, then Route Verte 4 to Rt. Verte 5 to QC. More direct route? Thoughts? Thanks again.

Only been in the eastern part of Canada - Quebec/Montreal - but most of the roads had very narrow shoulders and even those were soft cinder. Not the best place for thin tires. Best approach has been to stick to the side roads. Much less traffic and no trucks, and you can ride further out into the main roadway without issue.
