I am starting the Southern Tier on September 5, 2013.  Any chance you could be there by then in San Diego?  I am planning on taking life on the bike road as it comes and am not in any hurry at all.  I want to be sure to "stop and smell the roses" along the way.  I think it will take me about 55 days to complete.  A little about myself.  I am in my late 40's and have had a passion for cycling for about 15 years.  I have worked in the technology field for the past 25 years and left it for the good life in Maui, HI.  I have traveled internationally for business and love the outdoors.  This bike trip has been on my radar for about 8 years and now is the time.  Let me know if this would work out.  I would love the opportunity to ride with you for some or all of the trip.

Is there anyone interested in joining me on all or part of the Southern Tier, San Diego, CA to St. Augustine, FL, Departing on September 5, 2013?  This is my first cross country ride of this length.  I am doing this ride self supported pulling gear in a Yak trailer anticipating 50 to 90 miles per day depending on terrain.  I am anticipating the trip to take 50 to 55 days.  I am an experienced rider looking for the adventure of the trip along with the satisfaction of completion.  I am a 48 year old male, with a hall pass gifted from my lovely wife and kids.  If anyone is interested in the possibility please contact me.

Gear Talk / Tires for Southern Tier
« on: February 11, 2013, 12:43:01 pm »
Right now I use 700/23 Continental road tires on my Fuji Road Bike.  Would these tires suit me well on the trip?  Or should I up the width to 700/25 or larger?  Any thoughts on this?

What are your thoughts about a Yak trailer versus front and rear Panniers for a cross country souther tier trip?

Thanks for the info.
The weatherspark web site is awesome.
I will take in advisement of all who responded.  I may change my route altogether.

Florida would be a good destination for warmth...It is flat so this would be a good opportunity to get some base miles in and intervals on some nice roads.

Routes / Route from West to East in September/October

I am planning a cross country tour going from San Diego to Minnesota to Boston.  Has  anyone traveled these routes later in the year.  September to October.  I would be camping or Hosteling.  What is the weather like at that time of year?
