There is road construction on I-80 between Sinclair and Walcott.  Diverted traffic is leaving very little or no shoulder.
We have heard reports that where construction is not active cyclists are being allowed through the construction lanes.  However, this does not apply where construction is active.
Unfortunately, there is no good re-route around this area.  We recommend trying to find a ride through the construction zone.

For more information on current construction conditions see this link:
http://www.wyoroad.info/pls/Browse/WRR.RoutesResults?SelectedRoute=I80

Contact phone numbers can be found there as well.

You can check updates on the fire on the InciWeb site:

There is also a number there to call if you have questions.

Here is a news article that talks about the campgrounds in the area that are currently closed (July 26):

See this link for a reroute:   https://goo.gl/maps/mnbrXDJyP6B2

SR 187 is closed for resurfacing between the Shawano/Outagamie county line and SR 54 (Shiocton).  It is expected to be reopened Aug 2016.

As far as we know, the signed detour should be OK for riding.  Please update here if that is not so.

For more information see: http://projects.511wi.gov/weeklyupdates-ne/

We have gotten a report saying that the closed road can be very muddy (1-2 in. deep)  for about 5 mi (8km) south of mile 81.6 (131.3).

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that Burnham Avenue will be fully closed to traffic at the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation
District’s South Shore Line tracks, just south of Brainard Avenue, for repairs to the railroad crossing, beginning, weather permitting, at 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14.
The project will be complete by 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26.

To get around this road closure, from Avenue O on the north side of the construction, take 126th St., Torrance Ave., Cleveland Ave. to meet back up with the Burnham Greenway Trail just north of turn E on Map 1.  See this link for a map of the detour:
http://caltopo.com/m/1L4R

Use caution on Torrance Ave., especially on the bridges.  Walk bike on sidewalk if needed.

For further information on road closure, go to this website: http://www.idot.illinois.gov/about-idot/stay-connected/news-releases/Construction/releases

Old Route 66 is closed to traffic at Funks Grove to rebuild the bridge over Timber Creek. The work is scheduled for completion on Oct. 31.  See this website for more information: http://www.gettingaroundillinois.com/gai.htm?mt=cons

See the following link for a detour.

The shorter route is only 0.5 mi. longer than the mapped route, but uses 0.3 mi. of dirt road.
The longer route is 2 mi. longer than the mapped route and is all on paved roads.

At the south end of the Riverfront Trail in St. Louis, the route is closed while they are working on extending the bike path and elevating it help with flooding.  There should be detour signs, but here is a detour description:

WB: At turn H on Map 14, after riding onto Lewis St., ride 0.1 mi. then turn right onto Biddle St.  In 0.2 mi., ride under I-44, then turn left onto Broadway.  In 1.5 mi., turn right to rejoin route on at Broadway and Chouteau Ave. on Section 2, Map 15.

To get to the Arch, turn east on Chestnut St. (at the Old Courthouse) from either Broadway or 4th St.   While construction is going on, if you want to go to the top of the arch, tickets must be bought online or at the Old Courthouse.

During rush hour or events, Broadway and 4th St. can be busy.  If you are uncomfortable riding those roads, here is another alternate that takes you further away from the Arch.

The bridge on SR 173 near Cochranton (over French Creek) is closed for construction.

Here are two possible detours:

PennDOT says they will get more info on http://www.511pa.com/ soon.

There is road construction along US 101 in Lincoln City between SE 23rd and SW 35th Streets.  The road should stay open, but if traffic and conditions seem unsafe to ride through, here is an alternate to get around most of the construction: https://goo.gl/maps/ofQ6c

Pavement is being replaced on I-84 for 1 mile east of turn A (MP 87 to 88).
From May 22 to September 7th, 2015 Eastbound I-84 will have the typical 10 ft. shoulder available throughout the project.
Westbound will have 10 foot shoulders available for all but 0.5 miles of the project, where it will be down to a 4 foot shoulder.
From September 8th of 2015 to Memorial Day of 2016 only 4 foot shoulders will be maintained throughout the project.

Use extreme caution if taking this main route.   Also consider taking US 197 to the Washington Option.  To get across the Columbia River, walk your bike over the bridge on the east sidewalk, as there is no shoulder on this bridge.

Routes / Re: Route 66 between Kelbaker Rd and Essex
« on: May 22, 2015, 11:47:07 am »
Thanks for the note, Todd.

For the record, though, while it may be possible to get through on National Trails Hwy between Essex and Kelbaker Rd. during dry weather, this road is still officially closed and we cannot recommend it.  Also note that trying to ride this section in wet weather could be very dangerous.

Safe travels indeed.

On the Hell's Gate Option, Webb Rd. is closed for construction.  Use Lapwai Alternate and River Option instead.

For more information, see: http://www.co.nezperce.id.us/ElectedOfficials/Commissioners/WebbRoadReconstruction.aspx
