General Discussion / BRAN - Bike Ride Across Nebraska

Hi,

I'm just getting back into riding, haven't ridden at all in the last couple of years, and before that hadn't done any real long distance riding in MANY years.   Although my long term goal is a cross country trip, time, work schedule, and cash doesn't allow me to do that this year.  I'm thinking of taking a week long trip, and thought that BRAN looked like fun. 

I live in South Dakota, so it would be close, and I am familiar with Nebraska roads.  Thought about RAGBRI, but the timing doesn't work and it would be harder to get to and from the start/finish lines. 

Does anyone out there have any experience with BRAN?  How does it compare to other rides like RAGBRI?  The fact that they only let 600 people ride BRAN, and it doesn't seem like they always fill it, vs 10,000 riders on RAGBRI makes me wonder if it isn't a very good ride. 

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Classifieds / Handbike for sale

This is a used HandBike hand powered recumbent bicycle. It appears to be in good shape although it does have some scrapes and scratches on it. I just replaced the tires and tubes, and have ridden it a little. It could probably use a tune up, as it has not been ridden in quite a while. When I got it the tires were completely dry rotted.

I'm pretty sure that this is one of the original versions made by Chris Schwandt of New Dimensions Design, probably in the early 1990's.

The crank set and derailleur are Shimano Deore. The seat back is adjustable. The drive train can be tilted forward and the seat back can also be removed completely to make loading and/or storage easier.

Gear Talk / Touring Tire Question

I'm getting ready to put new tires on my bike and was looking for input on the size.  It has 700 x 23 tires on it right now, but I am thinking of going up to 700 x 38's. There is plenty of clearance on the frame.
What I am looking for is a smoother ride, and possible increased load capacity.  I weigh 230, and want to tour with the bike (unsupported).  Will a larger tire give me a better ride? Will it carry the weight better?
