I'm planning a bike trip in Japan and Korea (mainly japan) over the course of 2 1/2 months. I'm a minimalist on travel and am in need of a good bike regardless where I am (I'm currently pushing the limits of my $15 garage sale find touring bike. Its a fun bike and all the rust on it prevents thefts! (unlike my last bike)).

I was planning on buying the bike in either Korea or Japan, just any (decent) used touring bike, when I get there, and go from there. I'm not looking for something to win the olympics, just a modorate touring bike that runs even if it's from the 80's.

Any tips, warnings, or advice on just picking up a bike there?
