GPS Discussion / Re: Incomplete Lewis & Clark GPS Waypoints

Hi Scott,

I think I'm not understanding what is missing for you. Perhaps it's the fact that the last map section, from Clarkston to Seaside, is numbered 7 and there are 8 maps in the set? Section 8 is not part of the main route. On its eastbound journey, the Corps took a different route back, section 8 represents this journey. It might be easier to see this by looking at the Overview and Detail maps available on the main Lewis & Clark Routes & Mapping page:

https://www.adventurecycling.org/routes-and-maps/adventure-cycling-route-network/lewis-clark/

Hope this helps.

We just received this notice:

Quote
Cave-in-Rock ferry (TransAm/Kentucky/Illinois/Ohio River) was closed due to flooding/high water. Since 2.5-3 inches of rain are expected tomorrow [3.13.15]will be added to melt water from snow north of there....they expect it to be closed for at least a week.

Call 618-289-4599 to check status.

As Patco mentioned, states often have at least some information available in bike-centered maps. You can find a list of these contacts and websites compiled here:

Hi John,

Good news! Your purchase through AmazonSmile should get credited to us. We signed up last autumn:

Thanks for posting about it on the Forums. Obviously, not everyone saw the blog entry. =)

Hi Scott,

I just took a quick look at the data and it all seems to be there. One thing to keep in mind is that starting on Section 5, you have a number of options for getting to Seaside. You will need to choose your option and connect those routes.

Can you tell me anything more about what seems to be missing on your end?

Best,

General Discussion / Re: Washington, DC to Atlanta, GA

Hi Kate,

Welcome to bicycle touring! Every state has some sort of bicycle map and information via their Department of Transportation. You can see what is available in each state from this page:

http://www.pedbikeinfo.org/data/state.cfm

Some of the info is great, some is a bit more spotty.

I'd suggest taking a look at the resources and plotting out a general idea of your route. Then come back here with that info in hand as well as the kind of touring you want to do (hotels or camping? cooking or eating out?) asking your question again. It is sometimes easier for others to respond if they have a clearer picture of what you are looking for and planning.

Best,
.Jennifer.

It sure is still available! The website has been updated since that forum post went up. You can find the current shuttle pdf on the Logistics tab for the main Great Divide Mountain Bike Route page.

Hope this helps.

You might try this website. They list B&Bs on the Adventure Cycling Route Network. I would imagine most of them would be open to help you out..

I hope this helps.

We received an update on this closure as follows.

It looks like SR-1 will reopen on 2/2/15.

To check the status, open the website below - "Zoom" in to Los Angles/Pt Mugu and then turn on "lane closures".  You will see two orange cones on the highway. Click on one of the cones and it will update you on the highway's reopening.

Rankin Tickle,

Kansas also just produced a new bicycle route map you might want to take a look at. It is available as a pdf download from the Kansas DOT.
