The city of Black Hawk, Colorado has prohibited bicycles from being ridden on most of their roads, including those used on Great Parks South, Section 1, Map 7. Tickets are regularly issued for violating this law. Our suggestion is to walk your bike the distance across town, ~ 0.5 miles.

For more information, see our blog post pertaining to this situation: http://blog.adventurecycling.org/2010/06/ban-on-bicycling-in-black-hawk-colorado.html.

We have been alerted by Rocky Mountain National Park that major road construction will be occurring the park this summer and possibly into next summer. There is no detour, riders should expect delays. This affects the route on Maps 4 and 5.

From the NPS website:
Cyclists Should Expect Extremely Rough Road Conditions Due To Major Roadwork On Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park During this summer and possibly the summer of 2011, a major resurfacing project is taking place on a 19 mile section of Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park from the Colorado River Trailhead to Rainbow Curve. This project will also involve resurfacing of all major overlook parking areas, pull offs and the parking lot at Alpine Visitor Center.

Park visitors can expect 20 to 30 minute delays through the construction area on Trail Ridge Road. There may be multiple areas of construction occurring concurrently, and in that case the combined delay time will not exceed 60 minutes. There may be some temporary night closures as well, which will likely occur sometime after mid-July. Work will not take place on weekends or holidays. Cyclists and motorcyclists should expect extremely rough road conditions throughout the summer. Because weather conditions may change rapidly, park visitors should be prepared to adjust travel plans accordingly and are encouraged to call the park’s Trail Ridge Road recorded phone line at (970) 586-1222 for the current status of the road. Park staff will update the recorded line during and after regular office hours, when the road status changes. For further information about Rocky Mountain National Park please contact the park information office at (970) 586-1206 or check the park’s website at www.nps.gov/romo.

A portion of US 97A near Wenatchee, Washington will be closed for three, four day stretches:

March 22-25

If you are traveling through here on those dates, you will have to detour on US 97 to SR 150 to Chelan to rejoin the route. There are no services on this detour.

There is a bridge being reconstructed across Little Haw Creek on CR 305 located on map C.

http://www.flaglercounty.org/pages.php?PB=2&NS=301

Southbound, the shortest detour is 8.7 mi. south on SR 11 then 6.9 mi. east on SR 40 to rejoin the route on CR 3.
Northbound, the shortest detour is 6.9 mi. west on SR 40 then 8.7 mi. north on SR 11 to rejoin the route on CR 304.

Be advised that Volusia Speedway Park is located on SR 40 so traffic may be especially heavy at times on race days.
