Gear Talk / trikes

I have been looking at different trikes and found the Ice trike Adventure interesting. My question is, how safe are these trikes on the road and touring with them in traffic. I road one and my head was about even with the grill of a car. Is this a normal feeling?

Jay, my main use for this bike is trail and single track and over night or multi night trips, (touring) like the Katy trail or C & O Canal. Like I replied to John, the bike fits me fine and I have ample gearing even when loaded. So I guess I have the best all around bike for me. Thanks for making the muddy water clear.

John, my 4500 fits me just fine and I feel comfortable when riding the trails and have ample gearing. I guess I just answered my own question, thanks for the feed back.

I need information on mt. bikes. I Owen a trek 4500 mt. bike 24 sped, and the rear cassette is 11/30 and the chain rings 42/32/22  which is four years old. I  am pondering the thought of buying a Trek 4900 disc. The 4900 cassette is a 11/36 and the chain rings 42/32/24. Question, would it be wise to try and up date my old bike or go ahead and buy the new bike.

I do plan on using a full fairing but not the body skin.I am set up for the under seat panniers.I think this will balance out the bike very well.Living in the western part of Tennessee is hard to fine any hills to amount to anything.I'll have to make some runs up to middle TN. for some hill climbing.

I left end of March 2005 and ran into subfreezing cold and a little snow at Gila Hot Springs.  If you can get through NM you're good to go.  Don't worry about the Cleveland National Forrest in San Diego County.  There's little chance of snow after mid-March.
Thanks, that was helpfull.Looking at the map,N.M. looks like my main problem.
