Hi I will be heading into Leesburg Va on the Washington & Old Dominion Trail heading for the C&O Trail.  Can you recommend somewhere to stay please in Leesburg or on the road out.  Have been looking at motels but they all seem to be on non ridable roads.
Thanks

Routes / Custis Trail into Washington
« on: October 06, 2014, 10:19:02 am »
Hi flying in from UK and needing to get from Washington Dulles Airport into Washington DC and planned to use the WOD trail and pick up the Custis Trail.
When I Google Custis Trail the only thing that comes up is all about the crime committed on the trail.  Can someone give me the low down on using this trail please.
Thanks
Tony

Trying to remember on the ST a small town with a Yacht Club that has no water or boats but is registered as a Yacht Club.  Stayed there while passing through but lost all my pics and wondered if anyone can remind me where it is.  Driving me mad trying to remember.

Routes / Best jumping off point on CO Canal for heading south
« on: December 04, 2013, 10:23:44 am »
Hi, planning to start at Pittsburgh - head along the G A River Trail onto the CO Canal.
And at some point head south to Orlando.
I don't want to get into Washington or the busy surrounding areas, so what is the best jumping off point on the CO after the Appalachian Mountains to  start heading south?
Thanks for your help

General Discussion / Calling locals in Pitsburgh - info please
« on: November 02, 2013, 08:09:48 am »
Hi Guys
planning to ride the two trails to Washington DC in 2014. I have a couple of questions
1. I fly into Pittsburgh (coming from UK) so would like to just get into a hotel straight away.  Would the taxis at the airport take a boxed bicycle?  Or any other ideas.  Don't want to assemble bike & ride straight out after a long flight.
2. What is the best time of year?
3. Along the GA & CO Trail do the motels , B&Bs get fully booked or can one just turn up in most towns and find somewhere?
Appreciate any help
Tony

« on: August 28, 2012, 02:43:59 pm »
Hi thinking of buying an Ori bike Mi8 model.
Does anyone have first hand knowledge of these machines and how good are they for touring.

I initially want it to put on the boat but also to use it to fly out and tour.

Thanks

Gear Talk / Interesting sleeping pad, new design
« on: July 18, 2012, 09:33:07 am »
Has anyone used something like this.  I had a regular light weight inflatable which was so narrow I was unable to stay on it at night.  However, this one fits inside you sleeping bag - looks interesting

Gear Talk / This is novel use of bike & tent for lightweight tourers
« on: July 07, 2012, 11:22:42 am »
Not too sure how much weight using the bike like this would save.  I could not be bothered with anything like this because after a days riding I want my tent up in no time - especially if raining,  Just wonder what state the tent would be when wet and muddy.

Anyone used one and can put me right about how good they are?

General Discussion / Couple of Questions re dates of change
« on: January 10, 2012, 02:28:30 pm »
Just curious but does anyone know
1. when 700c wheel size was first introduced
2. when did manufacturers stop putting the gear changers on the tube from the head tube to the bottom bracket

Just wondered as these things seem to happen without me noticing  ???
