"Camping in city park, no restrooms."

While researching my upcoming TransAmerica, ride planned for this summer, I saw this on several of the ACA maps. How does that work...no restrooms while camping in a city park? While on a long physically demanding adventures with a amped up metabolism I'm ofter awakened in the morning by a strong urge to run or walk very quickly to the nearest restroom/outhouse/wooded patch.

Ask around locally. There's usually a coffee shop or gas station open early within a couple of blocks of the city park. You might have to get up a bit before the urge becomes intense.

I guess it works just like it says! The town/city has offered their park to cyclists, however there are no services except a lawn and maybe a shelter. In turn, such a city park is probably for free and this is why I love these parks. Not far away you will probably find a gas station or a McDonalds with rest rooms.

This is how I interpret it.

+1. You might even find a shower if the town is big enough. For example, in Tonasket, WA I twice stayed not at a city park but on the lawn behind a cafe/ice cream parlor. Think it was called Shannon's. For after hours rest room use, there was a truck stop a half block away that also had coin-op showers.

Good Post!

In extreme cases, I've heard of people using plastic bags inside the tent.  Make sure you have a bag with no holes!
