Hello
I have a one week to 10 day vacation in mid-March and would like to take a solo, possibly self-contained tour in a warm climate and am looking for recommendations.  I live in British Columbia and can catch a flight to the area. I won't have much chance to build up many base miles, so a nice easy'ish route with nice scenery would be great.  Can you suggest a route? Thanks so much.

Hi there,

Not sure how far you want to go, but the suggestions that came through the @acaroutes Twitter feed were: Belize, North Island of New Zealand, lower Spain.

If you're looking for a destination closer to home, the central California coast (heading southbound) is also a great option.

Hope that gives you some inspiration!

Cheers,

.Jennifer.

And there's some nice quiet countruy SE of Tucson, out near Thombstone.

You know where the weather's nice.  I like to just grab a road atlas and check out the roads marked as scenic and go on the adventure. The southwest has countless areas that would work. Just do a weather check first, because some of the area can be high elevation and be cold (like N Arizona and New Mexico).
May the wind be at your back!

Florida would be a good destination for warmth...It is flat so this would be a good opportunity to get some base miles in and intervals on some nice roads.

Thank you everyone for the great suggestions.  I never thought it would be so hard to choose a place to go.  It seems the more choices one has, the greater the difficulty in making a decision!

Last March we stayed in Patagonia, Arizona, mountain biking locally and followed the Arizona trail to Tucson.  Weather and riding were great.  While we were in Patagonia, an Adventure Cycling tour came thrrough, and they seemed to be having a good trip.  It is full for this year but you might look at their itinerary:

I'll second (or third) the recommendation for southeast Arizona, starting in Tucson.  The weather is generally fine; scenery is great; and traffic usually light.  A couple of days could be added to the Adventure Cycling tour mentioned above by riding riding to south to Nogales (on the Mexican border) from Tucson, then northeast to Patagonia to get on the A.C. route.

I live in Sierra Vist in about the center of the tour route area.  If you select this area for your tour, contact me at jpwettack3@msn.com.  I can give you details of area roads and potential side trips and could put you up for a night.
