car storage
tesswardle:
We are planning to bike from Whitefish Montana to Helena Montana on the great divide this summer. We need a place to park our car in Helena while we bike for about a week. Does anyone have a suggestion? Is there a safe parking area in Helena?
JMilyko:
Hi tesswardle,
I don't have any specific recommendations but the kinds of options might include:
- a mini storage place, often they store rvs or boats as well and may have a secure slot for you
- connect with a Warmshowers.org host
- check with the Helena police department
Hope this helps,
.Jenn.
DaveB:
As Jenn recommended, contact the Helena Police and the City Administation office for a recommendation. I expect even downtown parking garages won't have a dreadful daily rate. This isn't New York City you know. ;D
Another possibility is the Helena Airport. Most airports have long term parking lots at fairly lows daily rates and smaller city airports can be very innexpensive.

Also, if you're planning to stay overnight at a motel, call ahead and ask if you can leave a car parked there for a week. Unless there's a big event in town and they're booked solid, many motels will let you leave a car there for a few days.

Yep. Airport parking for $15/week:

If Helena's airport is anything like FCA (near Whitefish) and Missoula's, parking with you bike and riding out shouldn't be much of a problem. They aren't like JFK.
Contains an internal link for a map of lots and garages downtown:
