Motoman32:
Hello All.  Re-entering the sport of cycling at the age of 50 (almost).  Used to be a competitive cyclist about 20 years and 70 lbs ago.  Just bought a Jamis Bosanova pseudo-cyclocross bike, and equipped it to do some errand running, commuting, and light touring (eventually).  Looking forward to reading your posts and learning all about this end of the sport.  Surprised more LBS's don't stock Touring bikes or gear.  Thank goodness for specialty shops and the internet.

Thank you very much.  Already acquiring some great info.  Looking forward to participating on the site.  Curious if anyone else is doing any touring on "cyclocross" bikes.  Canvassing opinions.

Pure racing cyclocross bikes are purpose-built and suitable only for racing.  However, many "cyclocross" bikes are truly dual purpose and serve well as light or even loaded touring bikes.

The Surly Cross Check is one example as it has eyelets for both fenders and racks end even the fork has mid-mount rack eyelets.  It also has clearance for wide tires even with fenders and horizontal dropouts so an IGH can be used.   It comes with a double crank but a triple can easily be substituted.  It is typical but there are other similarly versatile "cyclocross" bikes available.
