Houston to Ft. Worth

Texas has relatively good roads, but some are better
 than others.  Especially ragarding traffic.
 Can anyone recommend a low-traffic, good
shoulder route from the south side of Houston (around
Clear Lake) to the west side of Ft. Worth (around
Azle)?

good question.  i'm new to cycling in general, and have done no touring, but i live in houston too.  i dream of doing some touring.  one thing i think texas cyclists should have developed is a network of roads to use for cycling between the triangle of d/fw, austin/san antonio, and houston.  maybe such a network has been developed?
