Hi!
A new digital topographic map library is online now at http://www.topomaps.eu. The main part of the library are soviet military topographic maps, also known as genshtab maps. The library include topo maps of Central and South Asia, Middle east, Tibet, China (only west regions are presented now). Also is covered all territory of the x-USSR and Russia, mountain regions of Asia - Himalaya, Kun-Lun, Pamir, Tian-Shan. There are some maps of European countries. All published materials are free.  I hope this site will be useful for all adventure travellers.

I'm kinda a newbie at this GPS stuff. And I don't doubt that it is important. But as an American tourist, why should I care?

I guess this is a request for someone to educate me.

Thanks in advance. BTW -  I have never used, nor felt the need, for topo maps.

Another military topographic collection may be viewed at http://mapstor.com/. Military topographic map collection offered at http://mapstor.com/ represents more than 18000 digital images of Alps, Balkan, Carpathian, Northland, Karelia, Kola, Crimea, Caucasus, Ural, Altai, Baikal, Himalayas, Tibet and many other places. All maps can be downloaded for free or bought on DVD. By using search option, you may find description of a specific map as well as preview fragments of the map images. We are confident that these maps will prove to be a remarkable asset to you, just like they were to us during our journeys to Baikal, Pamir, Tian-Shan, and many other places.

More than 7700 maps of middle altitude (beginning with M, N, O) are georeferenced now! All georeferenced files for OziExplorer can be downloaded at our topographic map resource for free. These georeferenced files can be used with maps bought earlier on DVD: Eurasia maps, Eurasia detailed maps, World maps update.

With best regards,
