UGRR - start in New Orleans ?
« on: February 09, 2008, 03:58:37 pm »
I'm looking at flying to New Orleans to see the sights before starting the UGRR cycle. Any ideas on bike routes to Mobile from N.O.'s.  Also, where to stay and what to see in N.O.'s  for a couple of 50 year olds ?  thanks

Hi Char,
You can contact the Louisiana Dept of Transportation. You can email the state bike/pedestrian coordinator from this page on their website: http://www8.dotd.louisiana.gov/dotdaz/definition.aspx?termID=47
And access their maps at this site:

I noticed they have one for New Orleans.

Once you get squared away for NO, you may wish to jump onto the ACA Southern Tier route - maybe in Vancleave? Take a look and see what works best for you. The bike/ped coordinator should be able to advise you on roads that will help you connect between NO and our Southern Tier - which brings you right into Mobile.

As far as touring NO - there are tons of great opportunities that biking provides. A little research and you'll have a host of things to "not miss."

Best of luck.
