TRB Proposal to study appropriate use of bike lanes

Have them check out http://www.labreform.org/blunders/b5.html .  (Actually that's page 5 of a dozen or so on the subject, linked with "Previous" and "Next" buttons to click.)  Bike lanes seem to mostly be designed by people who are well intentioned but have almost no idea of what the real dangers and capabilities of cycling are and are not, so they make facilities that too often are dangerous or nearly useless.  In most cases I don't think it would have cost any additional money to do it right.
