This seems to be an old thread but there are county roads that could be used. I rode them in the 70s in college. Presently Im more familiar with the Sacramento Valley which has beautiful county roads running the along the river from Sac to Red Bluff. Sound like a great winter ride to me!

Is there a different place for talking about a Sacramento River north route?  I'm currently doing my Winter base rides along the Sacramento River Levee from Discovery Park (American River) to Verona (Joe's Landing).  This is a great ride with only a couple of short 'problem' areas.  As my rides get longer I plan to explore further to the north, but I don't know the routes yet.

I would suggest posting in the California discussion in the Regional Discussion Area of the forums:
