Why does Adventure Cycle not have any AK or HW routes in this section of their webpage?
We have discussed both Alaska and Hawaii as possibilities for expanding our route network.
In Alaska, there aren't that many roads. Services can be difficult to come by and may even vary from year to year. Though geared toward RVs, The Milepost publication, found here: http://www.themilepost.com/
, is probably the best resource for gathering that information. It is updated and reprinted often (annually, I believe) which we do not have the resources to do.
As for Hawaii, the list of researchers volunteering for this assignment is long! ;-) It's a possible destination in the future but is not currently on the schedule. Again, there are not a lot of road choices for most of the islands and getting from island to island is no cheap feat with a bicycle. Also, there are many books available on the subject. We have heard there are plans for an inter-island ferry system in the future and this would be an attractive feature that might interest us in doing it sooner.
