FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HIGHWAY 1 CARMEL TO CAMBRIA PROJECT UPDATE

MONTEREY COUNTY:
Placement of hot mix asphalt overlay on 3 ½ miles of existing highway continues from about 12 miles south of Big Sur just north of Burns Creek Bridge to south of Partington Ridge Road. One-way traffic control is in effect with daytime work hours tomorrow, Oct. 29 and overnight work next week from 6 pm to 6 am. Work is scheduled to complete by Friday, Nov. 5, weather permitting.

Construction on a retaining wall project near Gamboa Point, three miles north of Lucia is completed including striping. Traffic continues down to one lane just south of Lucia at Dani Creek with a temporary signal in place for soundwall installation. Work hours are from 7 am to 5 pm daily with work expected to be completed at the end of summer of 2011. Cyclists traveling southbound are required to press the signal button to activate a longer period to safely get through the narrow one-way uphill section.

The temporary signal about two miles south of Lucia at Pitkins Curve/Rain Rocks for the bridge/rockshed project remains in operation 24/7 with the project expected to be complete in winter 2012/2013.

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY: No projects currently under construction along this stretch in SLO County.

Caltrans reminds motorists/cyclists to “Share the Road” and that “we’re here to get you there.” For more information on you can call the toll-free project hotline at (888) 836-0866 or visit www.dot.ca.gov/dist05/projects/pitkins/index.htm.
