new OFF product

OFF has new insect repellent product.

Don't have to spray it on yourself.  Repellent is in a container that you clip to your clothing and a "cloud" of repellency is maintained around ya.

Anyone tried?

I've tried one of those last year while floating the river during mosquito season and it seemed to work pretty well. Not much more info to provide other than it seemed to be as effective as spray.

Good info.  We will be riding in some mosquito infested areas of Montana in late June/early July.  I will pick some up and put them to the test.  But I will still bring my 100% DEET as backup.

while it appears the comment about 100% deet is a joke, I do want to point out that the protection received by 100% deet and 10% is the length of time the product lasts.  The protection is the same for the time they are both still effective.  I prefer to use less chemicals so I apply a low level of deet and reapply when it loses its effectiveness.  100% deet will last longer then required in almost all instances.  The key is application for both strengths of deet.  Products with deet will protect you if you apply over ALL exposed skin.  If you miss a spot, the mosquito or biting insect will find it.

Our local ABC affiliate tested the clip on product from Off, in a room full of mosquitos....it did not work very well. The poor reporter, who did the story, was none to happy. This was last year so maybe, a newer version is improved. I believe they said a 20-30% mix of Deet worked the best.

Has anyone come out with a product that combines DEET and sunblock?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that consumers avoid products that mix sunscreen with DEET insect repellent. Unlike repellents, sunscreens are meant to be applied liberally and often, so using a combination product could result in unnecessarily high exposure to repellents. Another reason not to use a combo: Many mosquitoes tend to bite long after the highest risk of sun damage has passed. The combination product that Consumer Reports tested, Avon Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard Plus IR3535 Expedition SPF 30, has no DEET, though its directions say applications should not exceed three per day. It did not rate near the top for either purpose.

If you need both at the same time, put the sunscreen on first, then the DEET.

Deep Woods OFF with 40% deet will do it. Actually, even the 7% deet works well with mosquitoes.
