Did ST east to west Feb 2011, finished in Austin, want to start in SD and end in Austin, what's best time to start, don't want to deal with snow or very hot weather

We left San Diego Feb 13 this year and had great weather, but it was too snowy to follow the ST to Silver City and Emory Pass; we had to skip it.  So, if you want to do the Pass, I would suggest leaving a bit later than we did, maybe end of Feb/early March.
Good luck,
Marti

You could also start in mid September.  Things tend to be getting cooler in the CA desert (although that didn't happen this year) and you would arrive before the snows in the AZ and NM mountains.

I'm thinking of hopping on the ST route from Phoenix and heading east in a couple of weeks. How bad is the weather likely to get?

I did it east to west starting December 7 and finishing January 30. The weather was good. Cold but invigorating and good.
