Details on Garmin blog (http://garmin.blogs.com/my_weblog/2013/06/introducing-monterra-new-garmin-outdoor-handheld-with-android-os.html).
For over two years now, I had been expecting such a device (https://twitter.com/mcccxxv/status/35328325178105857). It is packed with features:
- 3-axis compass with accelerometer and gyro
- Barometric altimeter
- UV sensor
- Dual-band GPS and GLONASS receiver
- 8-megapixel digital camera
- IPX7 waterproof
- Dual battery system: rechargeable Li-ion pack (included) or traditional AA batteries
- WiFi, ANT+, Bluetooth 3.0 and NFC
- Android spectrum of apps
Available third quarter 2013 at a suggested retail price of $649.99.
It is missing a few features still: heart rate monitor & bluetooth 4. I should better start saving for the next release of the Edge series with app support.

I'd have thought that ANT+ capability would make heart rate monitoring possible. A reasonable thought?
I'd also wonder if it was possible to display data in a similar way to Edge units.
This unit would make it possible for me to abandon Microsoft (and Apple) based products. Something would truly love to do ASAP.
