Title: Garmin Edge 520
Post by: jspallino on August 23, 2017, 04:38:43 pm
I searched this forum for info regarding the Garmin Edge 520 and found nothing.  I'm considering a purchase.  Is this unit compatible with AC maps?  Will it hold data sufficient to navigate a typical AC 1-2 week tour?  Many thanks.

I have not personally tried the Edge 520, but looking at the specifications for the device you should be able to load the digital data .gpx track files and display it on the base map. I'm not positive it will handle the service way points or at least all of them. This specific unit is geared more towards training than touring but I do think you will be able to use it to the follow the route track.

A more in depth review that really covers all the details and also compares the unit to the 8xx and 1000 series can be found here:

The ACA digital data is provided in a mix of tracks and routes. Most devices can follow a track, but to follow a route requires navigation capabilities, which the Edge 520 does not have.

The ACA web site has a list of available tracks and routes here (https://www.adventurecycling.org/routes-and-maps/adventure-cycling-route-network/digital-data-for-devices/).
