Title: Oregon coastal
Post by: Gypsea on July 28, 2020, 09:58:02 pm
Heads up....the State of Oregon has closed all coastal state parks hiker/biker sites. I was just at Honeyman SP several miles south of Florence and found out the hard way.
Thankfully I arrived after rangers gone for the day so I just helped myself to some other available space. I paid my 7.00 and spoke to ranger following morning.
She advised me that website says "hiker"sites are closed. Easily misinterpreted.
One can only camp by making advanced reservation for standard tent sites, about 20.00 per night.

This is noted in the Temporary ACA Route Road Closures discussions. Go here for a link to the OR state parks website:

Apparently some HB sites are open. It varies by park. I camped at Champoeg SP and HB open there. As far as I can tell, also Willamette Mssion SP HB sites available.

Best to call the patk itself and ask them if in doubt.

For what it is worth, I can confirm that Willamette mission SP hiker biker sites are open.

Many Oregon State Parks and Beaches have opened up again, and remain open through at least today.  I am planning my itinerary for a Pacific Coast ride, and there are only two campgrounds where I wanted to stay that remain closed - one in Oregon and one in California.  There are hotel options nearby, so I am not too concerned.  There are also private campgrounds that are open.  Near Lincoln City, I wanted to stay at Devils Lake SRA, but it will not reopen this year, so I am staying at a nearby KOA instead.  I strongly recommend keeping tabs on the Oregon State Parks web site, as they update the openings regularly.
