I hate this part of the ride. Going to do it again in June/July on a tandem with my daughter. Hence, low risk tolerance. Anybody know if this project had been completed? If not... can you offer alternate routes?

Not complete for a while. See http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist4/dslide/ The only alternate I know of is to not go that way, but head down through the peninsula. Yep it is a tough nut but folks do ride it and survive.

Thanks! How far out of the way is the penninsula. I've ridden this six times but am taking my daughter this time who is a bit timid so I want avoid anger, hostility, close calls and worse and to make it as pleasurable as possible.
Thanks again CG

Depends where you start. I'm presuming that you're starting in SF - airport? Let us know and then we can suggest the corridor. Suggest you also look at this thread.
