Routes / Re: Pacific Coast - starting in Bellingham or Seattle?

San Juans are spectacular, and the ferry is kind of fun. I'm against any big-city riding. It stresses me out, so I would avoid Seattle. Just personal preference. Enjoy the coast. It's an incredible ride.

Hanging Bear-Bags has always worked for me. Watch out for the 'coons, and make sure you have an actual bag for the food or it's a challenge to hoist it.

Crazyguyonabike- Your website was recommended to me by an Irish cyclist I met while touring SE asia. Very cool to find you on this forum as well.

On my first tour I was uber paranoid about it. I brought a spare. When I actually got a bad tear in the tyre my buddy fixed it with a powerbar wrapper and I rode it another five hundred miles before trading it out. There are so many bike shops around here. I Haven't worried about it since.

General Discussion / Re: Trans America Astroria, OR to Coburg, OR

Easily doable, and beautiful. Go down the coast. You'll most likely have a tail wind the whole way. It's usually cooler there as well. I live in Coburg, and did the trip to the coast and down to San Francisco last summer. I met a group of people who started in Astoria and kept up an eighty mile a day average, though they did have someone sagging. Have an awesome trip!
