Urban Cycling / commuting by bike
« on: March 08, 2007, 12:12:09 am »
i must be nuts--I'm a school teacher in minnesota &
commute everyday by bike--about a fourteen mile round
trip. Coldest morning was -17F. Most snow was about a
foot. I'm not even sure why i ride in such weather,
except to see if i can i guess. as long as the skin is
covered on the coldest mornings it isn't bad. The only
trouble i've had was getting a flat at -7F. it was
hard on the hands getting a frozen tire over the rim.

Routes / Crossing North Dakota
« on: April 16, 2007, 08:46:39 pm »
I plan on crossing N.D. to check out the Maah Daah Hey Trail. I will be
leaving the MN/Canadian border country early July. I'm looking at going
out via N.D. State Hwy 5, & back via N.D. State Hwy. 200. Any road info.
would be much appreciated. I plan on camping most nights, but hotel/
motel when desire. i know part of the N. tier Route goes from Minot to
Fargo might check that out also, but want to take different routes each
way. Any Advice?

Thanks Indianacharlie---
how was the camping out there? i heard they have some
fenced in areas about twenty miles apart. any advice
on trail conditions? I would sure appreciate hearing a
little of your experience. I'm starting out in
northern minnesota so i'm thinking of using marathon
xr 26/1.75's which (i think) is an ok compromise for
both road & off road riding...any thoughts?

Is there a bypass that goes around the north unit of
roosevelt nat. park? i've heard some mention of a
trail that cuts across private land that one can take
for $10? Is that true? any help would be appreciated.
