I've got the Garmin 60C and the standard Garmin handlebar mount.  I'm using it with a trike, so instead of being mounted to the handlebar it's mounted to a bar end which, in turn, is mounted to a vertical mirror mount post.

Yesterday, riding over a packed chipseal road surface, the mount was vibrating quite a bit.  The unit kept shutting off, which I assumed at first was due to a low battery.  But I still had 2 bars left, and later on took it in the car with no shutdowns.

Then, I thought that perhaps the battery springs weren't holding the batteries in place. Bu there aren't spings, just clips, and the battery compartment seems pretty snug to me.

So-given that the unit has no moving parts...would it shut down if it's getting rattled around too much? Has anyone else experienced this?

Many thanks,

-Ian

Routes / TA Kentucky: is there *anywhere* to stay between:

...Elkhorn City and Pippa Passes? I'm in Breaks right now, with a fully-loaded trike and trailer.  Not at all sure I can do 60 miles with climbs to get from here to Pippa Passes...

Thanks,

Ian

General Discussion / Missouri: what's the real deal?
« on: July 09, 2006, 08:26:05 pm »
What's the general consensus among TransAm riders about Missouri? I've been reading various horror stories, but I was also told stories about Kentucky...and at least for my ride so far, worries about KY were unfounded

Just looking for some recent experiences to prepare myself...

Thanks,

Ian

General Discussion / TransAm/Pacific Coast journal

Greetings-

I've just started the TransAm Trail westbound, with a bit of the Pacific Coast thrown in at the end.

Using various gadgets, I'm blogging it "live," from wherever I happen to be.  You can read about it at www.astonishedhead.com.

Cheers,

Ian Wood

TransAm, then down the Pacific Coast to Santa Barbara, CA.  Selling the house, tech-ing up a Greenspeed GTO with a Burley Nomad trailer, hitting the road.
