Routes / Traverse City, Michigan
« on: June 17, 2018, 01:38:37 pm »
We have a chance to be in the Traverse City area mid August. We thought we would do a little loop ride for a few nights in the area. I know things will be expensive. Will the roads be crazy busy if we ride out to Northport and around to Leland, Platte River area, and Interlochen?

We (2 couples) would like to ride to the Florida keys this winter from somewhere about 200 miles away.  I don't really want to go down the Pacific coast on the ACA maps.  It looks so crowded.  How would the Gulf Coast be?  Any advice?  Thanks.

Any recent Cowboy Trail (Nebraska) riders out there?

How hilly is it?  Have you ever seen the Peach Bottom Inn?  I haven't called yet to see if they are still open.  We want to stay one night very close to there and it doesn't look like there is much there!

I hope you'll post again and let us know how the training is going and eventually the trip.  I am not an athlete or in great shape and I really enjoy bike touring and it is a great experience!  Slow and steady.  I admire your getting back into bicycling!

Routes / Philadelphia to Richmond
« on: July 28, 2010, 09:21:22 pm »
We are planning on following the ACA route between Philly and Richmond in September.  We do not camp :)  Any out of the way places to see/stay that we shouldn't miss?  We like hokey small town stuff--old car shows, fire truck parades, pancake breakfasts.  We are also unsure how much to book ahead.  Will places be very crowded?  We did the Bar Harbor to Philly sections in previous years in October and didn't have any trouble finding B&Bs or motels as we went along.  Thanks for any help!

I haven't been on the forum in awhile so am sure you have this problem solved.  Would love to hear what you did.  We have the same type of bikes and we put the racks/panniers etc. in a big duffle.  Haven't been over the 50# limit yet but it is always close.  One time we looped and came back to our cases, one time we sent them ahead to a hotel with the duffle inside.  It's a lot of logistics but lots of fun!  Thanks to the writer for the tip about putting cellphone number in the case.  One bike was inspected once but no harm done.

Gear Talk / panniers

We are thinking about the medium sized Arkel panniers for a touring trip we are taking.  We are not camping and are very good at packing light.  Any thoughts from the experienced?

Any info on routes around Napa Valley would be appreciated, we'd like to ride for about a week, 40 miles or so a day, B & Bs.  Thanks.

In addition to water/food solutions I would suggest making sure you have stretched adequately before starting out.

THanks for that reminder, we'll head inland if it looks like a bad storm time.  We're from Colorado so don't know much about hurricanes.
