General Discussion / bike on UNITED airlines
« on: June 05, 2011, 02:35:38 am »
I don't know where exactly to find current information on this, so please help point me in the right direction.

After a recent cross-country ride went well, I'm going to go ride around Hawaii.
But, I have no money.
I leave in a few weeks.
I've got a hard bike case for my bike.
I'm wondering
a) if you know of any touring-friendly shops in Kona, Hawaii where I could assemble my bike and stash the case while I tour
b) if you know about United's bike policy?  Is the only way to get my bike there to pay $100?  Is there some current loophole I don't know about/  Are coupons available?  Anything? PLEASE?  $100 each way is too much for me, unfortunately.
c) do you know of any current ways/promotions/coupons to check a bag for free? all of my gear is going to go into a big duffel bag that I'm also going to have to check each direction...

Thanks so much.  I don't know much about flying with bike (although I've read all the websites, most are out of date), so anything helps!

so you know, it's now just brodyleven.com because it's receiving so much traffic.  if you have questions about the trip, let me know!

Just finished a trip, and am doing an asynchronous blog of it.  I think you may find it intriguing, and for those of you yet to travel, I daresay mildly inspiring?

When the trip is done being covered (which is done on a daily basis), I will begin highlighting other adventures--especially throughout ski and climbing season (aka year-round!)

You'll notice that I didn't do an ACA route...the website is a look into WHY.
