Gear Talk / Schwinn bike

I am primarily a mtn. biker but did my first tour last year (Natchez Trace).  I used my mtn. bike.  I have an opportunity to purchase a Schwinn Passage (5-6 yrs. old), less than 1100 miles on it, great condition.  Would this be a good bike for touring? I can't spend a lot on a 2nd bike. Oh, the seller is asking $250.  I plan on touring 1-2 times per year.

I rode the Trace from Jackson to Nashville back in May.  Would recommend picking up the book, Bicycling the Natchez Trace.  It will list stores, places to eat, etc.

I forgot that I had posted on this site.  Have you done the Trace already? When we rode the Trace, I picked up a copy of a book, Biking the N.T., by Glen Wanner.  Great book!

Anyone ever ridden the Katy Trail in Missouri? I've biked the Natchez Trace and looking for a different route next May.

I'm new to touring. Toured the Natchez Trace last year and will do the Katy Trail this year.  Have been using a hardtail mtn. bike.  Have an opportunity to purchase a Schwinn Passage road bike (6-8 yrs old).  Would this be a good bike for touring?  Or should I continue to use mtn. bike with narrower tires?
