General Discussion / Touring Alaska going south
« on: September 10, 2020, 05:52:20 pm »
Has anyone out there successfully ridden a trike from Anchorage, AK. TO Vancouver, BC. I was wondering if that was possible or a totally insane idea. I have a trike and feel very comfortable with it with many miles under my belt.

Gear Talk / Four chain ring set up
« on: January 21, 2019, 08:48:55 pm »
I have a trike that I had thought about installing four chain rings for a wider range of gearing. The set up would be: 22-30-42-52, the spacing is right if the derailleur will shift that far. I also have spacer washer to go between the 22 and 30 chain rings.  Has anyone tried this set up and what was the out come ???

I am having full replacement knee surgery on my right knee. My question is, has anyone out there had full knee replacement and returned to riding their bike and able to tour again.

Has anyone tried riding across the state of TN. leaving Memphis and using hwy.64 to Chattanooga. The hwy. has wide shoulders and seems like a safe route. I am open to any pros or cons or advise.

Gear Talk / trikes

I have been looking at different trikes and found the Ice trike Adventure interesting. My question is, how safe are these trikes on the road and touring with them in traffic. I road one and my head was about even with the grill of a car. Is this a normal feeling?

Jay, my main use for this bike is trail and single track and over night or multi night trips, (touring) like the Katy trail or C & O Canal. Like I replied to John, the bike fits me fine and I have ample gearing even when loaded. So I guess I have the best all around bike for me. Thanks for making the muddy water clear.

I need information on mt. bikes. I Owen a trek 4500 mt. bike 24 sped, and the rear cassette is 11/30 and the chain rings 42/32/22  which is four years old. I  am pondering the thought of buying a Trek 4900 disc. The 4900 cassette is a 11/36 and the chain rings 42/32/24. Question, would it be wise to try and up date my old bike or go ahead and buy the new bike.
