General Discussion / How fast do you ride?

I used to be concerned with "slowing down" the others.  I find that I now enjoy riding at my own pace (10-12 mph average).  I get into camp a little later than others but I have seen so much more.  If I wanted to get from point A to point B without seeing anything, I would drive.

I rode this ride a few years ago with my family.  It was a lot of miles, but we were prepared and had time to stop and smell the roses.  We rode during a heat wave and so some days it was cooler to keep riding than to stop and get off the bike.  Not my favorite ride, but I did enjoy it.

You have probably already ridden your ride, but I have to agree with AJB.  My children started riding at a young age and the planning was for them-where were the playgrounds, pools, beaches, etc.  The first long ride with my son (who was 7 and had been riding for a couple of years) found us doing 75-80 mile days.  I brought grandma along and my son rode 1/2 the day with me on the tandem, met up with grandma and she took him and I traded bikes and continued riding with my daughter.  Michigan has a 1-week ride that is geared towards families (PALM) I have ridden this ride 12 times now always bringing at least 1 of my nieces and nephews.
