Gear Talk / cell phone - northern tier
« on: May 01, 2004, 03:08:23 pm »

Thanks Dombrosk! I have heard of trimode but being cell phone challenged it passed from ear to ear. As a solo rider my wife insist I get a phone. I'll give several carriers an e-mail.

Gear Talk / tools - cross country
« on: May 02, 2004, 09:09:25 pm »
Some very good answers on tools preceded me. A clean drivetrain is also important. After some nasty weather left us covered with road gunk we stopped at a convienence store/gas station for a sm. bottle of auto degreaser.  The attendant gave us some semi-cleam shop rags and we were on our way. Little expence and nothing to carry!

GPS & Digital Data Discussion / which GPS for trans Am touring?
« on: June 21, 2005, 07:49:27 pm »
Fred, I see what you mean. Once we become familiar with something useful it's very hard to do without. Air conditioning and automatic garage door openers come to mind. I guess it boils down to the individual cyclist and what they feel is essential. For me, not even a cell phone was needed on the Northern Tier last summer.  Part of my adventure was going into a local establishment, ordering a beer and asking "where in the hell am I at"?
Good Riding, Stan

the lightest and most reliable GPS for bicycle tourist is the one you leave home! Good grief, you're going on a bike ride not to the moon. Enjoy yourself, check out the views, get lost and have some adventure.  Lose the tech stuff!

Try to spend one night at the Hotel Nevada in Ely. It's small, homey,a great breakfast and interesting gaming on the firat floor.  After riding US 50 a welcome respite.  Stan Urycki

Jean, what is a blog? A journal? Can I post photos as I ride this summer? I won't be touring with a lap top. Thanks, stan
