Classifieds / Great Divide BLM & Forest Service Maps for sale
« on: February 17, 2008, 06:03:14 pm »
I have the entire set (27 maps) of Forest Service and BLM maps that Adventure Cycling recommends carrying while riding the Great Divide (the US part).  Some are paper, some are plastic.  They have some wear, but are quite usable for another trip.  Before our trip, I marked the entire route with a highlighter (where I could find the route), and then I cut off some of the extraneous map that was no where near where the route went, to cut down on weight. I do have the cut off pieces, if you desire to tape them together.  There are also my notes indicating what maps follow each section.  These maps cost me almost $200.  I would like $25 for them all, plus $8.95 for priority mail shipping.  Please contact me at bikefam@freeway.net if interested.

Routes / Great Divide and a lot of questions

My husband and I are planning on starting the Great Divide trail the beginning of August.  Sounds like there are others too.  It will be good to have some company.  Maybe we'll see you on the trail.

General Discussion / Renting bikes in Europe/Belgium
« on: April 16, 2007, 10:09:28 am »
We will be going to Europe next Month (May 07) to visit our son in Belgium.  We aren't going to tour there, but would like to do numerous day rides.  Can anyone tell us about renting bikes there vs. taking our own?  We will be mostly staying near Kortrijk/Izegem, but will be taking the train on day trips to visit the rest of the country.  Do you know of a place to rent decent bikes?  Do we need to reserve them ahead of time?  What kind of bikes can we expect?  Thanks for any information.

General Discussion / Dogs on the Great Divide?
« on: January 14, 2007, 02:37:55 pm »
Just wanted to follow up on our original post.  We did it--the entire Great Divide trail, Aug-Oct 2006, with our two English Cocker Spaniels.  They did great-ran 15-20 miles per day (mostly uphill) and rode in the BOBs (downhill).  Catch our blogs at www.bikefam.com.

General Discussion / Dogs on the Great Divide?

Do you know if a 2 wheeled trailer will make it on the Continental Divide?  I would think it would be too wide.

General Discussion / Dogs on the Great Divide?
« on: November 16, 2004, 07:46:33 pm »
Has anyone ever ridden the Great Divide with a dog, alternately running/riding in a trailer?  The dogs love to run with us when we mountain bike.  Two of our concerns are: Will a BOB be stable enough for them (we've pulled a two wheel trailer, but never a BOB) and bear/dog problems.  Any comments?  Thanks.
