Colorado / Northern Colorado Adventure Cyclists

Hey All,

I recently moved to Northern Colorado and enjoy mixed terrain bike touring.  I've been riding solo for year but I'm looking to join a club or meet up with others who have similar interests.  Is anyone on this forum aware of any clubs in my area (Ft Collins) for this type of riding?  Thanks for any info you can share.

Hey Steve.  I can only account for a small section of the GDMBR, but can say that the section i rode was beautiful and challenging (especially if you're riding solo/self supported).  The section i rode was from Rawlins to Dillon, CO.  The Great Basin can be tough for sure.  Make sure your water sources are there!  I rode during a dry, hot summer following a very dry winter in that area from Rawlins to the CO border.  65 miles of little water, high winds, and temps in the mid 90's and I had a VERY bad time.  Streams were dry.  Try to check ahead to make sure you'll be able to fill up your bottles where you'd expect.

That all said, Im sure you'll have an amazing trip!  Cheers

ALSO note that there is 17 miles of construction on Sage Creek Road that you'll have to deal with.

Routes / GDMBR Update (Rawlins to Slater)

I thought it might be a good idea to share an update with anyone that is considering the GDMBR, and in particular, the section from Rawlins to Slater.  Unseasonably high temps and a very dry winter and spring have made this section pretty difficult in regards to staying relatively cool and hydrated.  Water is not as prominent as the map shows.  Many of the streams were either dry, out of reach, or non moving and very muddy.  Due to the high temps, this can be a very dangerous stretch.  I got myself into a bit of trouble with dehydration and heat exhaustion.  When I got to Slater, I found out from locals that there was no grocery store in Savery.  This added to my challenge as I was relying on some gatorade and cold drinks to pull myself out of my conditions.  However, I was fortunate enough to get some amazing help from the owner (Debby) and assistant (Shawn) at Riverbend campground/cabin rentals.  If you are going to be riding this section any time soon, please load up on water/electrolytes every chance you get and be aware of the temperatures.  My tour ended early due to heat exhaustion but yours doesn't have to.  Best of luck.

Routes / GDMBR - Southern Wyoming - Silverthorne, CO

I'm planning on riding the GDMBR from basically the northern border of Colorado, down to Silverthorne and back up.  I've pulled some good gear together for the trip but I'm struggling with whether or not I need to bring bear spray with me.  Has anyone had any experience on this section of the route?
