General Discussion / How much water to carry?

Hello All,

I know this question could have many answers but I need to ask it anyway!

How much water do I need to carry on the Trans Am?

I can carry 3 bottles on my bike,but would I need extra? I normally use a bottle an hour and was wondering how often I would be able to fill up at gas stations etc?

Am I going to need to travel more than 3 hours between water sources is a simple way of saying things?

I'm new to long touring and will be doing the Trans Am next year.
I have heard some mixed news on using Chamoix cream and wondered what regular tourers think,is it worth using and if so how much do you need to use?

Hello again,

This is my second post as the last was very helpful,I have a few questions.

Where do people recommend as the best places to camp cheaply?

I have seen a few posts suggesting Fire stations and local parks,but how realistic is this?

I would also like to know the approx cost of a phone, I think you call them prepaid.

Hello all,

I am new to cycle touring and will be doing the above trail starting in June 2013 west to east,with my 21 year old son..I am looking for as many tips as possible.Anything to do with gear,or things I should know about America,ie where am I permitted to camp,what sort of tip should I give in a bar etc.
Best way to get to the start and many more.
