Classifieds / 2 rear Cannondale panniers
« on: October 02, 2012, 03:38:32 pm »
- L:12 cm X H:12 cm X W:5 cm
- one red, one blue
- both R panniers, but they fit on the L as well
- I am not sure when they were made, likely early 80's
- bit of chain grease on the outside, and the red pannier needs a sewing job on the top (can see the fraying in the photo), otherwise in good shape
- just used on a 900 mile tour and served me well
- these are not water-proof
- use metal hooks that work best on tube-type racks and in that case don't require any mounting hardware
- come with straps as needed
- great option if you are gathering your gear on a budget
- asking $10 for each, plus shipping costs (~5.15 for priority mail box)

Wow Craig, thanks for taking the time to write that.  I was originally going to start from Truckee at the end of this week, but I think it wiser to start the ride further north, possibly Old Station.

The section through Lassen National Park on Highway 89 is currently closed due to the Reading fires, anyone have any suggestions for northbound alternates?

Thank you,

Megan

Thanks Fred,

I did find those posts before.  I'll just have to wait for the maps and go from there.

Be well,

Hi there,

I am new to touring and new to this site, but very excited to join.  I am planning on doing sections 2 and 3 of the Sierra Cascades route from Truckee to Mt. Rainier.  I plan on leaving Aug 24ish and will aim for 40 mi/day, giving myself until Oct 1ish before flying back.  I have three questions for now:

1. I am having a hard time finding information on the cost of camping along the way.  If anyone who has done this portion of the route can advise me on this it would be very helpful.  I am on a limited budget and would like to have an idea for planning purposes.

2. I don't have the ACA maps yet, but also would like to know if the entire route is on paved roads or does it also include dirt roads/ rough road conditions

3. from browsing the discussion forums it seems a section on highway 89 is quite hairy due to the vehicles.  Has this been sorted out (meaning an alternative route)?

Thank you!

M
