Classifieds / Southern Tier and Great Divide Mapsets
« on: December 16, 2020, 09:17:58 am »
I have the complete 2016 Great Divide mapset. I don't think it is used, I got the newest set before I went out on the route in 2018. Asking 35.00 plus free shipping in the US. I also have the complete Southern Tier set I bought it in 2014 and the mapset at that time had a mix of 2013, 2011, and 2010 maps. I just bought the current Southern Tier mapset and it does not look like there is much difference in resources they show. Asking 30.00 plus free shipping, again in the US [/img]

Classifieds / 26" Plus-Sized SON28 Dyno Wheelset 450.00
« on: January 06, 2019, 12:18:48 pm »
The set of wheels I am selling are actually the second set of wheels I have for my 2017 Surly Troll. When I got the bike new, it was spec'ed out with a set wheels that were built up with Velocity Blunt 35 rims. BTW, I am a huge fan of Velocity rims, I also have two sets of Velocity rims for my road touring bike. I had the wheelset that I am selling built because I wanted a stronger wheel that was better suited for plus-sized tires. I also wanted a wheelset that had a dyno hub for generating power while on the road. I am only selling the wheels because I am raising money for a new bike, a Salsa Cutthroat which has 29" wheels.

I had the wheels I am selling built up professionally less than a year ago, as far as I can tell they are in excellent/like new condition and are dead true. Both wheels are 32 spoke which on a 26" rim makes for an extremely strong wheel that is ideal for bikepacking, especially with the Velocity Dually which is a bombproof rim. The dyno wheelset uses a SON28 Dyno hub, arguably the best dyno hub available. This is a tubeless setup (you can use tubes if you want) and I am including a set of WTB Ranger tires that have a lot of life left in them, see pics. This is what the wheelset cost me:

2 - Velocity Dually 32 Spoke Rims 26" 270.00

SON28 Centerlock Dyno Hub (newest version) 315.00

Shimano XT 12 x 148 Centerlock Rear Hub 70.00

DT Stainless Double Butted Spokes/Nipples 65.00

2 - WTB Ranger 3" x 26" Tough Fast Rolling Tires 140.00

Stans Rim Tape/Stems/Orange Sealant 50.00

Professional Build (Broken Spoke, Santa Fe) 100.00

Total 1,010.00

I am selling the wheelset (less cassette and rotors seen in the photos) for less than half of what I paid for them. If you ever wanted to try a dyno hub wheelset this is a great way to do it for little more than the just the cost of the SON 28 dyno hub. BTW, I also have a Sinewave Reactor USB converter available if you would like to buy it separately. I have more pictures of the wheelset if you want to see more of them.

Classifieds / Ortlieb Hi-Vis Rear Pannier Set
« on: October 22, 2018, 10:55:41 am »
Selling my rear pair of Ortlieb High Visibility Rear Panniers. They are in excellent condition, only selling them because I have switched to a bikepacking setup. Not sure what these cost for a pair these days, but REI lists one of these panniers for 150.00, so that is what I am asking for the pair.

Classifieds / 9-speed Shimano XTR Drivetrain - sold
« on: January 02, 2015, 09:42:04 am »
For sale, complete Shimano XTR 9-speed drivetrain. I have included the best discounted prices I have found online for these components. I bought them all new two years ago. IMO, the XTR drivetrain is about as good of component group for touring as there is. All components are in excellent condition and have been very well maintained.

This combination has been great gearing for a cross-country tour that has included a lot of climbing. There is no good reason for me to be selling the group other than I want to try a 11 speed Shimano XTR drive train on my bike and I like to play with new toys. I am selling the whole package for less than the price of the crank-set, that is 450.00 for all the components.

Shimano 9-Speed XTR triple crankset 44/32/22 with XTR bottom bracket 460.00

Shimano 9-Speed XTR 11/32 Cassette 200.00

Shimano 9-Speed XTR Rear Derailleur 175.00

Shimano 9-Speed XTR Front Derailleur 70.00

Shimano 9-Speed Dura Ace Bar End Shifters 100.00

Shimano 9-Speed Dura Ace/XTR Chain 25.00

                  Total   1025.00

Classifieds / 700 x 32 mm Continental Gatorskin Hardshell Tires
« on: January 15, 2013, 02:29:52 pm »
I bought two sets of Continental Gator Hardshell tires in 700/32 mm with the intention of using them for a ride this summer. I am trying to set up my touring rig as light weight as possible, I think I have the gear weight down to about 27 lbs. The Gator Hardshells are fast on the flats and offer lots of protection, but they dont give the lively feel that the Marathon Supremes have.
I just got the tires, I took a short ride with one set, the other I just mounted and took off. Both sets are as new. I really like my standard Gatorskin tires which are slightly lighter and give a bit more lively feel than the Hardshells.

I would think the Gator Hardshells would be a great tire for folks that are not into lightweight, performance touring, but want a tire that gives great flat protection. I have two pairs of the tires and am selling them for 50.00 a pair. If you want to try a pair, this is a cheap way to give it a try. BTW, these normally sell for 70.00 each, so its a pretty good deal to give them a try,

Classifieds / Big Agnus UL2 Tent For Sale - Tent Has Sold
« on: October 09, 2012, 07:31:53 pm »
Hi all, I did my first transam last summer and took the Big Agnus UL2 tent and loved it. At 2 lbs 10 oz it is amazingly light and packs very small. It works very well as a 1 person tent with room for all your gear. IMO, it works, but would be a tight fit for two with gear. I have become a weight fanatic and am looking to get my touring weight down below 30 lbs for my ride this comming summer.

So I am selling the the UL2 and buying a UL2 Platinum which is the same tent but with lighter materials making it 7 oz lighter, silly, I know, but I really like the design and size of these tents. They setup very quickly and easily. The tent is less than a year old and in excellent condition, it was gently used and has no tears, wear spots or anything like that. I paid 370.00 for the tent and am selling it for 200.00 delivered in the lower 48 states. Here are some stats from the website:

Classifieds / FS: 56 cm Surly LHT, Fast Bike, 1,400.00
« on: August 11, 2012, 04:51:56 pm »
I have a 2012 Surly LHT in blue 56cm frame that is 8 months old and in excellent condition. I had Bikes Unlimited in Lynchburg, VA build up the bike for a transam ride that I did this summer with the bike, the bike performed flawlessly. I am quite a fanatic about taking care of the bike, for example, I cleaned the chain daily on my transam ride. The bike really looks like new. It has new brake pads, almost new Continential Gaterskin tires and a new chain.

I had it built up as tricked out performance touring machine as you can see from the parts lists. It weighs in at just under 25 lbs and is very fast. The bike cost me 2,600.00 and I am selling it for 1,400.00 plus shipping, less pedals and bottle cages (I will stick them on the new frame). I am only selling it because I have a long torso and short legs and just ordered a custom CoMotion Frameset. We live in Central Virginia. Here is a link to my transam ride this summer with the bike: , I have more photos of the bike if needed.

Here is the parts listing:

Shimano Dura Ace bar end shifters
Shimano R600 brake levers
Avid Digit 7 brakes with Problem Solvers brake modulators (used on tandems with V-brakes), this thing can stop!
Shimano XT front derailler
Shimano XT rear derailler
Shimano 9-speed chain
Shimano XT 9-speed cassette 11-34
Shimano XT triple crankset 44-32-22 (this was perfect gearing for the transam)
Profile Designs Stem
Velocity Dyad rims with Shimano XT hubsets, 36 DT stainles 14 gauge spokes. These are amazing wheels, the guys at the shop did an epic job building them up, they are true as the day they were made.
Chris King Headset
Brooks Saddle (only 1,000 miles on the Brooks, it is just broken in)
