General Discussion / Re: Overcoming butt pain

There is no such thing as a perfect seat but if you're riding more than an hour every time you get on your bike I would suggest investing in a brooks sadle. On the low range you can pick a new one up for about 110. Since they are made of leather and have an adjustment on them to "hammock" between the front and back, once you have broken the seat in the continual pains will stop. Also consider the clothes you are wearing and the position of your seat. You will become used to it eventually if nothing else :D

Gear Talk / Re: Tablets/IPad or laptops

On my cross country tour across the trans am I used an iPad 1
The difference between this and the later versions is you canot get a signal through service, only service from wifi. There were days I went without being able to connect to the internet but I found this a good thing at times. I know the days I was able to connect I stayed up way too late checking out things that were really not too important, and missing out on some good early morning hours of riding. You can pick one up off eBay or Craigslist for around two hundred bucks. It uses a very light charger and is lightweight and durable. Not to say any other tablet wouldn't work just as well, but I would say bringing a laptop with you would be a very heavy pice of equipment you could do without.

General Discussion / Re: Looking for help planning my trip.

Hey do it, it's a great idea. I just crossed the country and I too am planing to go across again sometime in 2013. I am curious though, will you be heading west to east or e2w? If you're heading w2e send me a message and let's talk a little. Otherwise just train yourself up and do as he said and do two day tours and get an idea of your weight you will need for sustaining yourself for a time.

Routes / Northern tier W-E spring 2013
« on: September 24, 2012, 05:27:18 am »
Hello, I was curious if anyone is going to be heading east on the northern tier in 2013. I will be looking for people to ride with along the way to split some of the costs of camp grounds ect. If you have any thoughts of heading east on any crossing I might be interested, trans am or south tier.
Shoot me a MSG !
