Routes / ROUTES FROM PILOT POINT, TX TO INDY

I'm looking for a route from Pilot Point, TX (60m north of Dallas) to Indy using low traffic paved roads and hopefully avoiding the Ozarks.

The two options I am currently considering are

1)  through Tulsa, OK to Sprinfield, MO to St. Louis to Indy.

or more likely

2)  through Texarkana to Little Rock to Memphis to Cairo, IL to Indy.

Any suggestions for where I could look for good routes.  I am aware of the Mississiippi River Trail and the excellent Illinois DOT bike maps, and the suggested routes in the Indiana gazetteer.  Beyond that, I need help.

General Discussion / Pilot Point, TX (Dallas) to Indianapolis routes

Hello,

I am brand new to touring, and I have special interest in cycling from Pilot Point, TX to Indy next summer.  
QUESTIONS.

Would any experienced cyclists have any suggestions as to route?

Is the Katy Trail in MO compatible with road bikes?  I've been on the I&M Canal trail in IL when its wet, and it was rough going even on a mountain bike.

I will have a support vehicle, so I won't need to be fully loaded.  With this in mind, should I try to avoid the Ozarks or head straight through?

I'm trying to make the trip in 12-13 days.

Adventure is . . .

. . .spending over a grand on a bicycle when my car only cost $600.00.

. . .meeting a bunch of strangers from some cycling club for my first club ride and being welcomed like an old friend.

. . . having my first flat tire (on a road bike) and trying to figure out how to get air into a stupid presta valve.

. . . walking my bike back home because I'm too stupid to figure out this stupid valve.

. . . planning my first point to point solo century.

. . . living vicariously through the journals of others who have attempted trans am rides.

. . . having something to daydream about that matters to and depends upon no one but me :  the next ride.

Hello, I'm looking for a route from Pilot Point, TX (north of Dallas) to Indianapolis.  With your experience in Texas, could point me in a direction.
