Hi all,
I'm thinking of doing the Utah Park loop this April.  I'm looking for information on how it would be on a Long Haul Trucker.  Right now I have 37 mm tires on but could go up to 42.  My brother might come and he has a steel road bike with 35 mm tires.  How are the dirt sections?  Any suggestions?

You have to make an account with them before you can see the map.  That is a bummer about the logging trucks.  I live and ride a couple hundred miles west of that area and the logging trucks are awesome.  They're the most courteous people on the road.  I can't wait to do this route, or at least part of it.  I can't start until early November next fall.

I weigh between 240 and 250 but have bike toured on my Long Haul Trucker when I was 280.  I did two really heavy tours with between 70 and 90 lbs of stuff, and the stock wheels did surprisingly well.  One broken spoke when I hit a water bar on a logging road at night.  The wheel lost its true after riding on a sandy dirt road and hitting rocks.  I would recommend having good 40 spoke wheel hand built.  Most quality bikes should be stout enough even if moderately loaded.  Good luck.

I really like the Surly Nice racks.  The front rack is cool because you can use it as either a high rise or a low rise rack and it has a platform.  It is fairly heavy at around 3 lbs.  But it is totally bombproof.
