I crossed a lot of european countries and you can be sure that with the netherlands; Germany is a model for cycling road (the worse was sweden :-\).
Nearly all the main roads are coupled with bicycle road and you don't even have to plan you route.

General Discussion / Re: what about cheap Walmart bikes?

Thanks for your help.

The price depends of the company; it's 150$ with Lufthanse (a big shame) and 100$ with united Air.
Moreover i'll have to change of company for my whole travel so i don't think that United airlines will accept to take my bike for free from Chicago to Denver because i used lufthansa to cross the Atlantic.

I definitly have to buy it In the US; i'm just disapointed that store such as decathlon in Europe where you could find quite good quality for low price do not exist in The US.

If someone who lives in Denver agrees to sell me a second hand bike just contact me on that forum.

indeed Galloper; i was thinking about decathlon bikes which are pretty goods for 150€.
Actually i don't really care about the comfort of my bike; i already did a 3000 miles trip with a 150€ full suspended bike; or the weight; i'll have 40 pounds of luggages with me.
I just a want a strong bike easy to repear.
I understand that those of you who bought 1000$ bikes wont advise me to buy a 150$ bike but i also have good quality bike and i know the difference and i'm able to suport it.
unfortunatly; i already buy my flight therefore i won't change my plan to buy my bike in the US.
I'm agree with the idea to buy a second hand bike so if one of you is in Denver Area and want to sell a bike for about 200$, i'm ok for it.

i'll do a 3000 miles trip this summer and because it costs 200$ if i want to bring my own bike from France; i decided that i'll buy it in the US.
I visited Walmart website and i've seen some bicycle which looks nice for nearly 150$.
We can have in France quite good bicycle for this price but what do you think about those of walmart?
Do you advise me to buy it in other stores? (i don't want to spend more than 200$ because i won't bring it back to home).
Thanks.

Do you know if it's easy to follow the ACA road without a map small road; path?
Is there any sign which shows us the direction to follow?
Are they so many people in summer that it's impossible to lost (Like the road of santiago in spain for those who know it)?

Thanks !!!

I think i'll do a mix of what you both said.

I'll flight to Denver then do a small part of the great divide in order to reach the TransAmerica trail.
Then i'll reach Portland (OR) and then Along the pacific coast til San Francisco.
Does someone have an idea of how many miles or Km is it?
Do you know if during summer, TransAmerica is crowded or not?
Is that easy to sleep on that route?

Thanks from France.

Thanks a lot for your answers.

I think i will do what raybo advises me.

I just have to check how to reach Wyoming by plane? and how many days will i need to do this.

I will bring with me my little tent.
Do you know if it is possible to sleep in a tent in forests? (Actually it is not allowed in France but i never had any problem doing this.)

Thanks.

Hi; I'm from France and i'd like to cross the northern part of the US starting my trip from Chicago with the aim to reach SF in about 2 months.
I think i'll start it at the begining of August.
My questions are the following; which road do you advise me? (i'd like to cross Wyoming which seems to be great).
Is that possible (and allowed) to sleep in a tent next to the road or in forest?
Can you advise me a nice cycling road guide or map thatt it is possible to buy on the net (amazon for instance)?
Do you advise me to do a totally different travel which could be much greater? (actually i just need to reach San francisco; don't really care of my starting point; just need an international airport).

Thanks for all; do not hesitate to give me other nice informations.
