Routes / Rt. 2 across North Dakota

    I road the northern tier rt. in 2009 for my 70th bd and now would like to do the same route for my 75th in June 2015 as I enjoyed that area so much. I understand most of the oil work is in the western part of the state so I'm thinking of riding to Minot ND the head north and back south just before Mt. border or after and landing in Culbertson Mt.
   Does anyone have thoughts or ideas on this route?

Routes / Pittsburg, Pa. to Sandusky, Ohio

     It's Fred.  My reason of going up towards Erie is gone so I'm looking for a route from Pittsburg to Sandusky and with the wealth of knowledge out there I'm sure there must be someone that has information on this rt. I'm waiting for a reply from one person any idea's?

Connecting ACA Routes / Michigan Hiway 23 to Mackinac bridge

It's me again planning my 09 NT ride. Instead of going across Mi. to Luther then up to Mackinac bridge what is hiway 23 like from just north of Bay City to the Mac. bridge. Traffic, shoulders, etc.. I'll be coming from Port Heron, Mi. using the Lake Erie connector,

Gear Talk / msr whisperlite or simmerlite stove

I tried to do a search but no results. REI has the Whisperlite stove on sale 49.00, after that rebate $ , and I'm not sure which to get that or the Simmerlite. Can the Whisperlite do any simmering at all by playing with the adjustments. I also hear that the Simmerlite is not much better at simmering. Getting ready for my Northern Tier ride next May and trying to keep cost of needed items down. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Gear Talk / Thermarest pad slipping

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to my thermarest pad to keep my sleeping bag from slipping off during the night short of buying a new pad.

Routes / Route xcross Michigan

Requesting more info on Northern Tier ride May 09. Can anyone tell me what Rt.2 xcross Michigan from Escanaba, Mi.to Duluth Minn. is like for bike riding as apposed to following the ACA rt. to Hayward then rt. 53 up to Duluth? I don't want to drop down to the St Paul are as the ACA rt does.

 Planning my 09 No. Tier ride. How many miles is it from the east side at the beginning of the restricted rd. to the end of the restriction on the west side and approx. how many hrs. on a loaded bike? Article mentions Apgar turnoff to south end of Lake McDonald. also mentions from west ent. Logan Creek to Logan Pass.

Routes / Best rt to Missoula

Before I order my maps for my 2009 Northern Tier ride I have a few questions. Im going as far as Cut Bank, Montana but I'm not sure whether I'll go thru Glacier Nat. Park or take Rt 2 around to Whitefish or Kalispell. From there which is the better rt to Missoula rt 83 to 200 or rt 93 straight in to Missoula. any help is appreciated.

I'm interested in a route from Port. to GP that parrells I-5. I received maps from ODOT but looks like I would need to use I-5 for at least part of the ride. Any ideas? Thanks.

General Discussion / Transam rt or Northern tier ?

I'm doing my first cross country ride in 2009, family reunion in 08, and would like to get some feed back as to which route to take and why. This will be a solo, self supported ride by a fit almost 69ner at time of ride. I want to start dreaming know and also start gather some info for route I pick.
