General Discussion / Anyone for San Fran to Vancouver in late June?
« on: May 01, 2004, 05:22:42 am »
Hey, I live in San Francisco and I'm planning a 2 to 3 week tour from San Fran to Vancouver starting mid to late June (its about 1200 miles).  I'm looking for a person or two (male or female) to go with as I'm pretty new to the West.  I did a westward solo tour last summer across the country and now I'm addict to touring.  I have a website http://www.memride.com about the ride.  I'm a 23 year old single strait dude in pretty good shape.  If you want to talk about the trip or ask me some questions, my e-mail is aabrown@uvm.edu.

The gist about this trip:  I'm plannign on camping all the way!  My cash budget is somewhat limited so I'm going to cook on my camping stove as much as possible (but thats what I said last time :) ).  I do like to get big breakfasts at diners before a good day of riding.  We'll see how things turn out when were on the road.  The best thing about going on your own tour is that you get to do what you want, when you want.  Thats why its the best vacation!  Also, I've already got the Adventure Cycling Maps of this route.  As of right now, I'm planning on taking a bus back to San Fran but then again, thats negotiable too.

I'm counting down the days until the open road. Its gonna be a blast!  I just want to share it with someone this time.  I met 2 guys my age on the trip last summer who were riding from Virginia.  We rode together for about 10 days.  We had a ton of fun during that time and now I still hang out and party with them around San Fran.

As far as how I ride: I usually keep a steady pace.  I hardly ever try to race through these long rides.  I love nature and just like to enjoy the outdoors as much as I can.  I'm not saying I'm slow (I can pull the 100+ mile days consecutively.  I'm just saying that if the person I'm riding with is slower than me, it does'nt bother me at all.  I like riding slower too.

Well, taker easy.  E-mail me if your interested.

Peace,
-Andy Brown

PS:  As you may know, some people say its harder to ride north along the Pacific Coast.  Well, a lot of people say that riding from east to west is harder too.  It didn't seem to bad to me and I don't think North here is going to be that much different. At least I hope.
