Routes / Atlantic Coast Route - Massachusetts >< Maine

Twice a year I try to do some miles on a different ACA route. Next adventure, June 5 --Massachusetts >< Maine. I rather do heading north but I will do other way if it means not fighting northerly winds everyday.  Anyone have any thoughts, suggestions. I know in bike touring we deal with whatever mother nature throws our way, but a little planning never hurts.

Gear Talk / Trunk bag for Tubus Evo Cargo Rack

I have a Tubus Evo Cargo rack on my new Surly LHT. I now need to get a trunk bag. The rack is not that wide. Do I get  Ortlieb trunk bag? Do I get  Arkel Tailrider trunk bag? Do I get something else? Suggestions please

I am thinking of doing Southern Tier Phoenix to San Diego beginning December. Any comments about weather and direction of winds at that time. Plan, half camping, half motels. Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / Airplane Travel

I am heading to LA from New York in October and will be spending a week riding to San Francisco. I will then fly home from there. This is a first for me - flying with my bike. The bike part has been figured out. My bike store will help me box it up and Southwest Airlines will fly me and my bike to California. Now, how to carry my bike bags, helmet, water bottles etc. I do not have a tent to worry about as I will be staying in motels. I cannot take them in a suitcase as I will be flying home from a different area. Should I put them in a box and check them as luggage. I think to bulky to bring as carry on. Any suggestions???
