Connecting ACA Routes / Help Needed: Northern Tier -Michigan UP-Ontario

Hello,

We want to do a modified Northern Tier through the Michigan UP, into Ontario, and hook back up with the Northern Tier in New York.  Any ideas on which maps we need in addition to Northern Tier?  Are there route maps for the entire modified section we want to do or do we need to use road maps and local info for part of it?

Gear Talk / Recument tandem vs Trike

We are planning a cross-country bike trip with our two kids (ages 10 and 11).  My wife needs to ride a recumbent and we are debating between a recumbent tandem and a trike tandem (which she will share with one of the kids and I will share the standard tandem with the other).

Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences with recumbent tandems or trike tandems?

Routes / Finishing in Maine - Need Help with Shipping Bikes

Hello,

We will be finishing our cross-country modified northern tier ride in August.  We will be riding two tandems - a Burley San Marino and a Rans Screamer.  I've contacted a bike shop in Portland, ME (Back Bay Bikes). They said that the bikes will be too big to send via UPS or FedEx.  Does anyone have experience sending their bikes from Portland (or anywhere else, for that matter)?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Routes / Newport Oregon to Ontario Oregon

We are planning a cross-Oregon trip for the first week in April and would like to ride from Newport to Ontario.  The most direct route looks like Hwy 20 to 26.  Does anyone have experience on this route?
