Routes / Northern Tier motels

I am thinking about a Northern Tier Ride West to East. Is it possible to complete the ride without camping? Or are the distaces between accomodations too great?

General Discussion / Best Camera for touring?

I am considering a new camera for my upcoming tour. I have used a Cannon A560 (7 mega pixels) which is ok but I'd really like sharper pictures with more detail. I'm really not that into photography so spare me all the lingo - I'd just be interested in suggestions of a really good portable point and shoot (digital of course) that would be an improvement over what I have.

I'm planning a Trans Am east-west next year. It looks like rain is common in the east. I'm pretty well set up for rain except for my feet. I don't really mind riding with wet feet unless it's cold but I hate putting on wet shoes the next day. The Eastern segment of the Trans Am in mid June looks like hot weather. So my question is for former Trans AM riders: What is the best method to keep the feet dry? Is it really a concern in the hot weather or is it just no big deal? It seems like any solution I've thought of so far will be too heavy to carry or a hassle to put on or may be too hot for normal riding if you put it on and it doesn't rain. Any input appreciated.

Gear Talk / Ortlieb Dry Bag

I'm ready to buy an Ortlieb dry bag to keep my tent, sleeping bag and thermorest from the rain. My concern is with the tent. So often while touring, the tent is covered with dew in the morning and does not have time to dry if you want an early start. What happens when you put the damp tent into the dry bag and ride all day? Aren't there problems with mildew? Anyone deal with this problem before? Just wondering about the best way to transport the tent, keeping it dry but without mold or mildew.

GPS & Digital Data Discussion / Clueless

I'm planning an east-west Trans Am next summer and have considered using a GPS - trouble is I am CLUELESS as to where to even begin with this technology. Perhaps someone could direct me to some info that could take me step by step - at least far enough so that I can decide whether or not its even worth the bother. On one hand I can see where it may greatly enhance the ride but on the other hand it may be just another gizmo that will detract rather than add to the experience. Your thoughts and directions would all be greatly appreciated.

I am planning a trans am east to west. I could use some help planning how to get to Yorktown with bike and gear to start. Any ideas would be appreciated.
