Which 26" tires would you use for Prudhoe Bay to Mexico via the GDBMR? There is about 2100 miles of pavement between the end of the gravel Dalton Highway and Banff for the start of the GDMBR. Use one set of tires such as the Marathon Dureme or Extreme? Or change to something like the Supreme in Fairbanks for the 2K miles of pavement to Banff and the start of the GDMBR?

I've read a few reports on other sites of issues with index shifting on 9 speed barcons and Shimano XT/XTR rear derailleurs. Any of you experience this?

« on: April 03, 2011, 07:46:41 pm »
I've read the discussions here and on many other sites debating the merits of V-brakes vs dics brakes, so please lets not do that again. What I would like to know is for those of you that have disc brakes or use to have disc brakes are you : 1. Extremely happy, disc brakes are awesome? 2. Satisfied but think they are sometiimes a hassle? or 3. Would go with V-brakes if I could have a do over?

« on: March 17, 2011, 08:58:55 pm »
Lets say that all your stuff will fit in 2 rear panniers such as the Ortlieb Back-Rollers. Is there any advantage of using 4 smaller panniers such as 4 Front-Rollers to distribute the weight more evenly between the front and rear wheel?

Any real world experience on fuel canister availability between Fairbanks and San Diego? I'm looking for real experience, not assumptions.
